Contour Series is a series of visual and audiovisual exhibitions and projects by arts centre nona.

Contour Series is a series of visual and audiovisual exhibitions and projects organised by the nona arts centre.

The third exhibition in the Contour Series – First Floor. Contemporary Art Between Walls and Moss – will be located in the iconic Hotel Ruin in Vrijbroekpark, Mechelen. Construction of this ambitious complex began in the early 1970s but was never completed. The raw concrete skeleton was gradually taken over by flora, fauna and graffiti artists.

In this living ruin, nona asked a dozen artists to reflect on the interaction with the architecture and the environment. The result is an open-air exhibition with sculptures, installations and site-specific interventions, exposed to the natural elements and inhabitants of the place.

CONTOUR SERIES #3: FIRST FLOOR. CONTEMPORARY ART BETWEEN WALLS AND MOSS

The previous exhibition in the Contour Series – EUROPALIA ESPAÑA: Iván Zulueta, Through the Looking-Glass ran from 10 October 2025 to 4 January 2026 and celebrated the oeuvre of Iván Zulueta, one of Spain's most visionary and influential artists. The exhibition engaged in a thoughtful dialogue with the work of four contemporary Spanish artists: Marta Azparren, Esperanza Collado, Julio Linares and Beatriz Lobo.

Contour Series also presented film premieres and screenings at Cinema Lumière Mechelen last year, including Celestino (Hans Bryssinck), Bandeko Basi (Paul Shemisi & Bie Michels), Matador (Pedro Almodóvar) and Ocaña, retrato intermitente (Ventura Pons, in the context of BAFF).
