In Stranda, Norway, the harsh weather causes the small asphalt roads to buckle and crack every year (in Norwegian: telehiv). In that rugged landscape, drummer Øyvind Skarbø found the inspiration for his eponymous sextet. The music of Telehiv is relaxed and minimalist, yet simultaneously in constant motion. The striking combination of the traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, a cello, and a wild synthesizer gives the band a completely unique, tinglingly fresh luster.

In Ever Present, too—the musical brainchild of Tobias Volckaert (also highly active with Abel Ghekiere)—the beauty of the unexpected takes center stage. He translates small scenes into instrumental compositions: a peculiar play of light, or an everyday thought that suddenly shifts. Far removed from the rat race, his melodies take their time to unfold organically, seamlessly shifting from mysterious and searching to upbeat and driving.

À Stranda, en Norvège, les conditions météo rigoureuses font chaque année gonfler et se fissurer les petites routes goudronnées (en norvégien : telehiv). C'est dans ce paysage rude que le batteur Øyvind Skarbø a trouvé l'inspiration pour son sextuor éponyme. La musique de Telehiv est détendue et minimaliste, tout en étant en perpétuel mouvement. L'association singulière du violon de Hardanger traditionnel norvégien, d'un violoncelle et d'un synthétiseur survolté confère au groupe un éclat totalement unique, d'une fraîcheur pétillante.

Chez Ever Present également — le projet personnel de Tobias Volckaert (très actif aussi aux côtés d'Abel Ghekiere) —, la beauté de l'inattendu prédomine. Il traduit de petites scènes en compositions instrumentales : un jeu de lumière singulier, ou une pensée du quotidien qui bascule soudainement. Loin de la frénésie ambiante, ses mélodies prennent le temps de se déployer de manière organique, passant subtilement d'une atmosphère mystérieuse et introspective à un élan joyeux et entraînant.
