BRAND! DAY 4

The tenth edition of BRAND! flares up from Nov. 26 to 29. With central guests Hanne De Backer and Mattias De Craene, and a gluttonous lineup in collaboration with Belgium Booms x JazzLab.

STUFF.

STUFF. is nothing less than a cornerstone of Belgian music, a real band that grew out of close friendship and countless jams, but gradually developed into a unit that can compete with acclaimed names on the international scene. With the likes of J Dilla, Kraftwerk, Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke as their sources of inspiration, they have a sound that is as recognizable as it is eclectic, a combination of jazz, hip-hop, funk, fusion and blistering electronica. STUFF. stands for an assault on the head as well as the legs, with a stellar live reputation and an insatiable hunger for adventure.

Woolvs - Large Ensemble

Togetherness, grief, anger, regret, euphoria and compassion end up in eclectic songs interwoven with mysterious instrumental sidesteps, choral passages and found footage. The Woolvs - Large Ensemble around guitarist-composer Willem Malfliet plays art pop with unusual textures and strong influences from (free) jazz and psychedelic music. The message of this group of musicians from the contemporary Brussels music scene - together active in the worlds of jazz, classical, pop, soul, rock, electronics, sound art and improvisation - is one of hope. They will also present their double album!

Singin, guitar: Willem Malfliet • flute, synth: Aiko Devriendt • bass clarinet, bariton saxophone: Hanne De Backer • tenor saxophone, clarinet, alto clarinet: Thomas Jillings • soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet: Adia Vanheerentals • bassoon: Laszlo Thiry • guitar: Vitja Pauwels • bass guitar, percussion: Ruben De Maesschalck • bass, synth: Soet Kempeneer • violin: Elisabeth Klinck • singing, keyboards: Oriana Mangala • singing: Paulien Rondou • live electronics: Jacob Hus • drums: Olivier Penu • drums; Samuel Ber

Mattias De Craene & Alex Zhang Hungtai

With their shared love of the saxophone, Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain and mysterious soundscapes, this will be an incantatory performance by kindred spirits, musical adventurers without blinders. Just as Mattias De Craene moved from jazz into other equally exciting territories (dark film music, electronic ritualism, mysterious jazz rock), so too is Taiwanese-Canadian Alex Zhang Hungtai unlabeled. For years, he caused a furor as Dirty Beaches, with which he seemed to have walked away from a David Lynch production. Postpunk, jazzy ambient and noir in a quirky combination.
