ENG - From February 1 to 7, 2027, Mechelen turns black, yellow, and red for the Week of Belgian Music, featuring the Oh la la la festival organized by Cultuurcentrum Mechelen and Concertzaak. This year, Nova Express adds its own Belgian flavor to the mix, presenting three top-tier homegrown jazz concerts.

FR - Du 1er au 7 février 2027, Malines se pare de noir, jaune et rouge à l'occasion de la Semaine de la Musique Belge avec le festival Oh la la la du Cultuurcentrum Mechelen et de Concertzaak. Cette année, Nova Express y va de sa contribution bien de chez nous, en proposant trois concerts de jazz de haut vol 100 % locaux.

The music of Macondo Trio feels like a warm conversation between close friends. Drummer Angelo Moustapha and saxofonist Sylvain Debaisieux connected between Belgium and Benin, discovering a shared language full of African rhythms and childhood melodies. Together with bassist Federico Stocchi, they form a tight-knit, organic trio. On their JazzLab tour — which naturally includes a stop at Nova Express — an 'old' friend joins them on piano: Wajdi Riahi. A true rising star in Belgian jazz, he has turned heads alongside the likes of Stéphane Galland (The Rhythm Hunters). This is also a special reunion for our club, as Wajdi memorably opened Nova Express two years ago. With his Tunisian roots and poetic playing, Riahi adds a narrative, Mediterranean glow to the Macondo Trio.

La musique du Macondo Trio s'apparente à une chaleureuse conversation entre de bons amis. Le batteur Angelo Moustapha et le saxophoniste Sylvain Debaisieux se sont trouvés entre la Belgique et le Bénin, y découvrant un langage commun nourri de rythmes africains et de mélodies de leur enfance. Aux côtés du bassiste Federico Stocchi, ils forment un trio soudé et organique. Pour leur tournée JazzLab — qui fait évidemment halte au Nova Express —, une « vieille » connaissance s'invite au piano : Wajdi Riahi. Véritable comète du jazz belge, il a fait sensation aux côtés notamment de Stéphane Galland (The Rhythm Hunters). C'est aussi d'émouvantes retrouvailles pour notre club, puisque Wajdi avait ouvert le Nova Express de manière mémorable il y a deux ans. Fort de ses racines tunisiennes et de son jeu poétique, Riahi apporte une lueur méditerranéenne et narrative au Macondo Trio.
