In season 26-27, JazzLab will once again present a series of concerts in collaboration with the magnificent Permeke Museum in Jabbeke.
Visual artist Constant Permeke is known for having one foot in tradition and the other in experimentation and the future—characteristics that will sound familiar to jazz lovers. Musicians in this adventurous genre cherish their “legacy,” yet never miss an opportunity to bend or break familiar boundaries.
We seek out that tension between tradition and innovation with this concert series in the renovated Permeke Museum. From a fascination with the power of nature to the simplicity of everyday actions, the passions of painter and sculptor Permeke also resonate throughout the diverse corners of our Belgian jazz scene. Get ready to be surprised by a refreshing convergence of art, nature, and music.
19.06 | CEDRIC DE LAT QUINTET
Belgian trumpeter Cedric De Lat and his quintet offer a fresh and melodic take on contemporary jazz. With lyrical compositions, powerful improvisations, and a close bond among the musicians, the ensemble creates a sound that is both refined and energetic.
The music of the Cedric De Lat Quintet moves between modern jazz, cinematic soundscapes, and subtle grooves. De Lat draws inspiration from both the American jazz tradition and contemporary influences, resulting in a unique, recognizable musical language.

28.08 | Matthias Van den Brande 'Fields of Color'
For Fields of Color, saxophonist Matthias Van den Brande draws inspiration from the work of American painter Mark Rothko. Just as Rothko evokes an intense spirituality through light, color, and composition, Van den Brande explores a rich spectrum of sounds, emotions, and imagination through his music.
Together with his regular trio and the acclaimed trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart, he creates layered soundscapes in which every note feels like a brushstroke on an imaginary canvas. The result is a compelling musical experience that blurs the boundaries between visual art and jazz. *Fields of Color* is an ode to the power of art and an invitation to explore the depths of the human experience through the universal language of music.
The album of the same name was released in 2025 on the renowned Spanish label Fresh Sound New Talent Records and was enthusiastically received both nationally and internationally. Peter De Backer wrote in De Standaard: “Top-tier Belgian jazz.” On the leading American jazz website All About Jazz, reviewer Artur Moral called the album “a major step forward in Van den Brande’s already brilliant career” and even “a necessary one for anyone interested in the intersections between different art forms and the effect of emotions and life events on them.”

02.10 | Klinck Trio
Klinck Trio brings together three distinctive voices from the Belgian music scene: violinist-composer Elisabeth Klinck, saxophonist Adia Vanheerentals, and pianist Maya Dhondt. Together, they create slowly unfolding soundscapes that give rise to a delicate space of intimacy and discovery.
Their album My Hair Is Everywhere (2025) was met with critical acclaim in both domestic and international press. *The Wire* wrote: “It’s hard to imagine anyone disliking their music,” while Focus Knack described the album as “so intimate that the trio almost seems to be sitting on your lap.”
