This Kind of Bird Flies Backwards (live stream)
Natalia Pieczuro feat. Colin H. van Eeckhout
We not only know the Polish dancer and choreographer Natalia Pieczuro from her contribution to Voetvolk’s The Sea Within. Indeed, almost three years ago at nona she premiered her first solo This Kind of Bird Flies Backwards. BUITENKANT VOET will be the perfect platform for an intimate revisit of that performance.

Turning points
In This Kind of Bird Flies Backwards, Pieczuro uses both her own experiences and stories of people who are not afraid to live. Often ecstatic joy and deep-seated sadness appear when we least expect them to. "Moments that make you feel alive", as she calls them. For Pieczuro, they are turning points that give life meaning and provide perspective.
Colin H. van Eeckhout
From her base in Brussels, the choreographer created an open landscape of archetypes for this piece. In Colin H. van Eeckhout of post-metal band Amenra, Pieczuro found her ideal musical partner. With his hurdy-gurdy, he provides an accompaniment that goes through the bone. This Kind of Bird Flies Backwards is about the intensity of our feelings and how we can experience ultimate sadness or loneliness so differently. This performance is pure, raw and real.
About Natalia Pieczuro
Natalia Pieczuro was born in the Wild East. She is a dancer, performer and teacher and believes that reality is ultimately timeless, following the logic of the universe. At SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance), she studied anthropology of culture and graduated with a double diploma in both choreography and performing. Since 2006, she has been following the Fighting Monkey path which provided an axis to her teaching and life. As a pedagogue, she is motivated by an urge for movement - a consequence of being alive - and by an endless will to share. Her teaching is totally based on Fighting Monkey practice. It reaches dancers, actors, circus and sports people and all people interested in movement. She is currently busy with Fighting Monkey, TCM studies, stillness, discovering archetypes together with Colin H. van Eeckhout and last but not least - searching for mindful shapelessness under the gaze of Lisbeth Gruwez.
