SWEAT BABY SWEAT is a performance about love. Following A SMALL GUIDE ON HOW TO TREAT YOUR LIFETIME COMPANION (2010), Jan Martens created a duet in which a man and a woman combine acrobatic strength with mental vulnerability: a look at love beyond all clichés.
In an agonizingly slow dance, based on various movement languages such as butoh, yoga, circus acrobatics and rock 'n' roll dancing, two people hang on to each other. They will not and cannot let go of each other; after all, two is better than one. There is no absolute meaning, but there is a recognizability that gives the audience the space to tie their own feelings, expectations and stories to what is happening before their eyes. Jaap van Keulen is responsible for the soundscape and Paul Sixta for the text projection.

SWEAT BABY SWEAT is a duet that has been touring nationally and internationally for years now and was the absolute breakthrough for Jan Martens.
In the coming seasons Jan Martens will combine his role of co-artistic director with GRIP with that of associate artist with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. On 19 July his first production with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, FUTUR PROCHE, will have its world premiere on the Cour d'honneur of the prestigious Festival d'Avignon!
