ATTENTION: for obvious reasons this event has been canceled.
For this new project, drummer Teun Verbruggen has chosen a quartet that appeals to the imagination. A carte blanche of musicians with totally different backgrounds, musicians who inspire him personally in different ways. The album has yet to be made, but the track record of Teun's sidekicks is promising.

Take the young, insanely talented pianist Bram De Looze (Eric Mcpherson, Joey Baron, Fred Hersch). He has already played with Verbruggen in the band Chasing Penguins. De Looze always gives the music surprising and fresh twists. That he proved again last season in with his project Fragments of Expansion. Further down the line we recognise saxophonist and clarinettist Chris Speed. In the past, he could be seen at the side of Dave Douglas, John Hollenbeck and Erik Friedlander: a musician who values minimalism and tells a story with one note where most musicians need ten. Speeds (American) background and his own unique jazz sound in combination with his deep sense of musicality are absolute trump cards in this project. And then Teun Verbruggen introduces yet another great musician. Ikue Mori has already proved her abilities within John Zorn's Masada project and with musicians like Marc Ribot and Fred Frith.
Blind IO will bring an unpredictable set to Nona. One in which - purely on the basis of the intrinsic class of the musicians - you should have blind faith. Our apologies for this lame pun.
Karen Willems & Pepijn Caudron (Kreng)
In 2020, with her project Terre Sol drummer Karen Willems decided to focus on solo research. Then the pandemic came which forced her to opt for a different approach. Willems is a player: encounters with other musicians are not only very important and inspiring, but also stimulating and connecting.
This is how the idea arose to work together for a few days with actor/composer/musician/dj Pepijn Caudron AKA Kreng. Caudron is no stranger to her, as he was responsible for the mix and production of Color In The Zoo, the latest album by Willem's band Inwolves. The last concert they played together - in 2016 - tasted like more. Like bringing together sound design and playful ideas. No idea what that will sound like, but it's certainly going to be exciting.
