Lunalia XS 2020
Due to corona measures, nona arts centre nona, together with co-organiser Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen, has been forced to cancel the LunaliaXS festival. Wherever possible, we will try to organise a few of these concerts in the 2020-2021 season. Thank you for your understanding.
Ludwig van Beethoven: big bunch of hair, Ode to Joy, Für Elise and tata-taaaaa. That is just about the collective image the composer evokes. Lunalia, the spring festival of the Flanders Mechelen Festival, literally shoots Beethoven to the moon and lets him recover there from the myth that was made of the man.
Ludwig van Beethoven
In the Beethoven Year 2020, Lunalia focuses on the vocal work of Ludwig van Beethoven, the least known part of his oeuvre: songs, choral works, canons, arrangements of folk songs and compositions linked to theatre. As a vocal festival it goes in search of the man behind the myth, the man whose roots lie in Mechelen. The grandfather of the young van Beethoven was the first professional musician of the family. The music by which the name of Beethoven became world-famous budded, as it were, in the city by the river Dijle.
Two Great Ladies
For this edition too, we created a Lunalia XS part, the section in which "the intimate" and "the excessive" within the festival can take place. Think of detours into jazz and experimental. With the spirit of the festival in mind, however, the focus will always be on the voice. Lunalia XS will counterbalance the Great Mister van Beethoven with two Great Ladies who will each present two projects: soprano Nora Fischer and percussionist Evi Filippou.
