BRAND! Jazzfestival 2020
Use the words ‘jazz’ and ‘Norway’ in a single sentence and a fair few music lovers will assume you are talking about the ‘Nordic Tone’: the characteristic mood of snow, mountains and icy fjords. The sound of big names like Jan Garbarek and Terje Rypdal might well have something to do with that.
Nonetheless, this stereotype doesn’t do justice to the diversity and quality of contemporary Norwegian jazz. Think of musicians like Bugge Wesseltoft, Trygve Seim, Mathias Eick, Marius Neset, Christian Wallumrød, Paal Nilssen-Love, Ingebricht Håker-Flaten, Mette Henriette or Kim Myhr and you will realise how varied the Norwegian scene is. Incidentally, we have heard a few of these names at nona over the past few seasons.
3, 4 & 5 December 2020
The richness of Norway as a jazz country makes it the ideal theme for the sixth edition of our BRAND! Jazz Festival. Expect a balanced, three-day programme from Oslo and far beyond, complemented with talented musicians from our own country. Be sure to note 3, 4, and 5 December in your diary. We will announce the definitive line-up at the beginning of September.
In partnership with Mechelen Cultural Centre.
