Second edition of Buitenkant Voet
Three-day-festival in nona
Since 2007, the dancer and choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez and musician and composer Maarten Van Cauwenberghe have been working to create a rock-solid oeuvre under the name Voetvolk. Take productions such as AH/HA, We’re pretty fuckin’ far from okay, Lisbeth Gruwez dances Bob Dylan, The Sea Within and Piano Works Debussy. All through those years, nona arts centre has been a loyal companion. Likewise, partners from the dance scene have also often been involved in the eleven productions that the dance and performance company has now created. Last year this resulted in the first (online) three-day dance festival: BUITENKANT VOET.
This year we are going for the real live experience and we invited once again several international 'sidekicks' with whom Lisbeth Gruwez & Maarten Van Cauwenberghe have already worked in the past. Besides Voetvolk, who will be playing their latest performance Into the Open for three evenings, we have invited Vicente Arlandis, Piano trio Chevallier-van Dam-Lenski and Jennifer Dubreuil Houthemann

Voetvolk: Into the open (avant-première)
Dance meets concert, that’s Into the Open’s pledge.
Seven performers embody the groove and share the energy of the music. They spur each other on with pimped krautrock from 2022, or Can’s repetitive theme crossed with The Chemical Brothers’ high voltage.
Voetvolk welcomes you for a wild, collective leap into limbo. Let’s trance!
Piano Trio Claire Chevallier, George van Dam & Simon Lenski
The musicians of this trio come from very different musical fields (historically informed practice, contemporary music, rock and experimental performance) but are connected by their many collaborations within the theater and dance world (Rosas, Needcompany, Transparent, Voetvolk, Anima Eterna, Ictus, Daau).
The program they present is built around Dmitri Schostakovich's Second Piano Trio composed in 1944, the year the siege of Leningrad ended. Here they juxtapose the immense oppression depicted in this groundbreaking work for piano trio with the beautiful, free-breathing and minimalist universe of David Lang's WED (1992).
Vicente Arlandis | The Endless Struggle to make a Living
In this performance, Arlandis talks about the work and discipline of a dancer, how it feels to repeat the same act in a factory eight hours a day or how the body feels when it dances the same performance for five years.
Vicente Arlandis has collaborated with several artists (Lisbeth Gruwez, Jan Fabre, Amalia Fernández, Saioa Olmo, Rafael Tormo, etc.). Currently he is a member of the collective TALLER PLACER together with Paula Miralles, Miguel Ángel Martínez, Aina Vidal and Violeta Ros.
Jennifer Dubreuil Houthemann | La Rêveuse
Jennifer Dubreuil Houthemann is from Brest and started dancing at the age of five. In 2018 she danced in The Sea Within by VOETVOLK, directed by Lisbeth Gruwez. Together with choreographer Guiomar Campos, she started the CAD Platforme for which she has already made five performances since then: ZOE, Le petit Jardin, ANTES, See how we sleep and La Rêveuse.
