Lunar Night: Grid Ravage + Use Knife
Saturday 19 november
The days are getting shorter again so no better time for another Lunar fever dream with a double bill at nona!
Use Knife and Grid Ravage both have new work ready: conjuring eastern tribal postpunk with live visuals and a whimsical whirlwind full of jazzy electronica, all laced with sequencers and synthesizers.
Grid Ravage
Grid Ravage is Yves De Mey (aka Eavesdropper), drummer Louis Evrard and cellist Gino Coomans. On their debut album, the trio seems to explore and unravel every nuance of that one-minute of silence before the storm over eight chunks of tantalizing beauty. As the cello threatens and the electronics indulge in jazzy unpredictability, drum brushes lead the band along whimsical paths, where sparking suspense, intoxicating repetition and subtle surprises constantly alternate.
Use Knife
'The Shedding of Skin' is the first album for Use Knife, the new musical project of Stef Heeren, Kwinten Mordijck and Saif Al-Qaissy, in which they merge Western underground music with traditional Arabic music into a true melting pot with a unique musical sound. Their music is built around driving electronic rhythms, ricocheting sequenced melodies & samples and lively Arabic drum rhythms.
