Musical jack-of-all-trades Alex Koo - hailed by Trouw as “on the same rare level as Keith Jarrett” and whose Trio was included by both Downbeat and De Standaard on their lists of the best albums of 2025—is taking a bold new step with his brand-new live project, Kimono Garden.
Expect an organic blend of jazz, neo-soul, electronic music, ambient, and future beats—a soundscape that is both playful and compelling, leaving the traditional jazz stage far behind. Influences drift in from the realms of Flying Lotus, Hiatus Kaiyote, Erykah Badu, Björk, and Thom Yorke, amplified by a healthy dose of experimentation, improvisation, and pure stage energy.
The band consists of Lorena Del Mar (keyboards, vocals, loops), Andrew Claes (EWI, flutes, electronics, percussion) - one of the creative forces behind STUFF. and numerous innovative projects - and Trui Amerlinck (bass, cello, vocals), known for her work with Ivy Falls, Tsar B, and NΔBOU, among others.
An exclusive vinyl reissue of Kimono Garden will be released specifically for the JazzLab tour in October–November 2026, featuring several new quartet pieces and available only at the concerts. A collector’s item that breathes new life into the dreamy, cinematic soundscapes of the original 2020 album (which was released digitally only at the time).
