about nona
Nona arts centre is a Belgian non-profit organisation that makes art and culture accessible by focusing on diversity, enriching encounters and challenging confrontations. It is a bridge builder between visitors and artists, between the local and the international scene, between art and education. By offering a wide range of disciplines (circus, contemporary dance, music, theatre and visual arts), nona makes a visible contribution to a strong social fabric. The arts centre focuses on the interaction between creators, people and society.
In its programming, nona opts for a diverse range of culture that consciously explores the field of tension between accessible art and artistic work that presents the visitor with additional challenges.
Nona emphasises its role as a breeding ground for new artistic work. In addition to established makers who continue to challenge themselves, nona also gives young artists with international potential ample opportunity for growth. The arts centre supports these artists in the development of their skills and artistic research within their field of work.
As an officialy recognised non-profit organisation, the arts centre receives structural subsidies from the Flemish government and the city of Mechelen. In its regular activities nona relies on a team of motivated volunteers. Thanks to differentiated pricing, nona makes art and culture accessible to everyone. In this context, nona also collaborates with the local school network. Finally, nona also sees a social responsibility for itself in terms of sustainability. Therefore, nona strives towards a low ecological footprint.
